The Fundamental Unit of Society (Emily)

"The family is central to the Creator’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children . . . The family is ordained of God. Marriage between man and woman is essential to His eternal plan. Children are entitled to birth within the bonds of matrimony, and to be reared by a father and a mother who honor marital vows with complete fidelity." - Family: A Proclamation to the World

Being from California, there has been a lot of talk on Proposition 8. If voted YES it will restore the definition of marriage between a man and a woman and it will protect our children from learning in public schools that "same -gender marriage" is the same as traditional marriage. If voted No, the sanctity of marriage will be destroyed. No longer will we celebrate husbands and wives having and raising children. We loose the right as parents to teach our children about relationships according to our own values and beliefs.

Prop 8 needs our attention. We have only 13 days until Californians vote on this issue. I only hope that we can protect the definition of marriage. The world is stronger when the family is strong. There is nothing greater than to have a father and mother who love each other and in turn love and raise children with morals and the knowledge of a divine plan for the family. Families are wonderful, I'm so grateful for mine!

Back to School (Emily)

Do you remember the days when friends meant everything to you? Do you remember always making sure you had the right clothes to wear? Do you remember feeling a little scared and overwhelmed by all the classes, and teachers, and the big school? Do you remember those Friday night football games sitting with your friends cheering for your alma mater? For me, those days have been long gone. But how exciting it is for me to watch my kids be interested in those things and see the school experience through their eyes.

I hope I have taught them and loved them and encouraged them enough to be strong against all the temptations and struggles that come along with being an adolescent. I hope that I know them well enough to see when they might be struggling. I hope they know how much I love them every morning when they walk out that door.

Oh....back to school! New clothes, new friends, more homework, homemade cookies, late nights, reports, projects, soccer, piano.....I love it! Good luck to all you kids this year and good luck to all you moms!

Faith (Emily)

This is a family that I had to reschedule several times. Things kept coming up for both of us. So after 6 weeks we were finally able to get some pictures taken. We just finished all the individual shots and we were headed over to a field to take the family picture. And what do you know .....WIND kicked up fiercely! There was no way we could do these pictures. The kids thought it was kind of cool to have all there hair flying in the wind. So I took a couple of shots of them in the field and then chatted with mom and dad who were patiently waiting in the car for the wind to die down. After a few moments I turned around and found this:

This picture was not posed at all! This is just 5 kids that have a lot of faith! Well it paid off, the wind died down and we were able to get some fun shots.

Sisters (Emily)

There is a special bond with sisters. The Closeness starts from a very young age. It's never discussed, it's just always felt. I enjoyed this shoot because I remembered some of the feelings I had for my younger sister Lizzie. I remember at night when I was 5 or 6, after Lizzie would fall asleep, I would reach down to her trundle bed and hold her hand while I fell asleep. I always felt safer knowing my sister was there. So here's to little sisters, that grow up to be your best friends!
